With the acquisition of most of the players in the world of cricket, the Indian Premier League has managed to move everything in its path like a resounding thunder. The attention that the IPL Cricket league is receiving has belittled the meager reputation that the ICL managed to secure some time ago and the IPL has already done what it was destined for.
The formation of the IPL cricket league is certainly not the result or sequel to India’s victory over the Twenty20 World Cup, which senior BCCI officials initially called “a waste of time”. Due to the formation of the Indian Cricket League by some former Indian cricketers who wanted to move BCCI’s monopoly on Indian cricket, the concept of IPL came about.
Taking inspiration from the English Premier League, the BCCI started the idea of the Indian Premier League, where support has been sought from the cricket boards of various countries. Players from different countries have been allowed to play in the IPL Cricket League and are being paid huge sums to do so.
The amounts involved in both companies are so large that using the word “huge” would be an understatement. The auctions of the players and state teams in the IPL have attracted big business houses, Bollywood actors, millionaires from all over the world. It’s the big names that are paying that have made the difference in the IPL.
Cricket is considered more of a religion in India than a simple sport. People have their passion with this game and passion is a virtue where everything else takes a backseat. With games in this league starting in April 2008, everyone is keeping their fingers crossed and looking forward to great entertainment.
