Registered Sex Offenders List
As of September 17, 2022, there were 68 individuals on the Maine registered sex offenders list. The state’s legislature changed the state’s sex offender rules several times since 1992. The changes were intended to make Maine’s sex offenders rules more comparable to federal rules. These new rules include a three-tiered sentence structure for sex offenses.
To stay off the list, residents of Maine should make it a point to update their information. For example, if they move, change jobs, or schools, they should notify the local police department. Notifications must also be made to the State Bureau of Identification. The bureau then forwards the information to the relevant law enforcement agency.

Anyone convicted of a sex offense is required to register with their county’s Sex Offender Registry. Additionally, convicted sex offenders are required to register on the Maine sex offender registry. The Maine State Police’s Web site also has a section dedicated to sex offender information. The list is searchable by name and can also be used to find out who has committed sex offenses in the state. This database is not complete, however, and does not contain all convicted offenders.

Registration information on this site is updated daily by the State Bureau of Identification. To ensure that the information is accurate, registrants must regularly update their address information. Any change in address will affect the information on the list. Moreover, the date that the registrant’s address was updated is displayed next to it.
Adult and juvenile registrants must register in order to stay on the list. The state registers sex offenders who have committed a Class B or Class C crime. These registrants must be kept on the list for 10 years and validate their registration status every six months.
The purpose of this ordinance is to provide additional protections for sex offenders. It is important to note that sex offenders cannot live near restricted properties such as public or private schools. Some towns have also passed their own ordinances that restrict the sex offenders’ access to children.
