Make Every Day Valentine’s Day

Some people consider Valentine’s Day to be a special day. They expect attention and signs that they are loved. Then there are those who distrust Valentine’s Day as a cynical ploy by retailers to intimidate customers into buying overpriced cards, chocolates and flowers. Others may want to treat their love to something special, but don’t have the money available to spend on extras. While it can be lovely to lavish attention and gifts on someone special, you may be asking the question, why focus on just one day of the year to show you’re in love?

Let’s look at positive and inexpensive ways to show your love on Valentine’s Day and every other day:

– Someone I know made a scrapbook of the moments they spent together during their relationship; they collected photographs, programs, ticket stubs, flyers, dried flowers from the places they had visited and the things they had done throughout their days and nights together. The thought, time and effort put into the project made it a much appreciated, unique and treasured gift.

– Use your skills. Paint a picture, frame a special photograph, bake a cake, take the children out to give your love a few hours of peace, park the car, clear the garden; do something that would be valued by them. Showing that you’ve made the effort to do something they would appreciate makes your actions even more relevant and special.

– Plan a day of pampering and special treats. Many people lead busy and stressed lives, so arrange for your love to have a comfortable and relaxing day; breakfast in bed, a nice bath, all the papers, their favorite foods, planning their favorite movies, giving them a massage.

– Revisit a place of special significance. If there is a place that has special sentimental significance, why not plan a trip for Valentine’s Day? Maybe you were at school or college together, enjoying walks on the beach, taking weekends away when you first met. Pack a picnic and go together for a romantic and nostalgic evening.

– If you have children, why don’t you take care of the children with another couple? That way you both get a chance for a break. Even if they just end up staying at home with a takeout and TV, at least they have time to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Why focus only on Valentine’s Day being romantic? With a little advance planning, all of these suggestions could be used to allow every day to become a special day in your relationship. People respond to being treated with consideration and affection. These simple gestures could improve the quality of the relationship for both of you, and without breaking the bank.
