There will be and always has been a great debate about what is the best type of car model. The difficult answer is that it all depends on the person. However, with that being said, diecast model cars have been and continue to be very popular with all age groups.
What piques your interest?
The first question you have to ask yourself is: what interests you? As humans, we all have different tastes; no two tastes are the same. This is why you have many different variations of toys and models at your local model car store. What one person may like, another may not feel is as important.
What do you want to do with it?
The next question you want to ask is: what do you want to do with your diecast model cars? Some people want to take them and collect them. These people will keep your item in a box on a shelf. Then there are some that will take you out of the box and create staged scenes that will put you in a new light.
From there, we have people who just like cars and want to play with them. These are the people who don’t really see the monetary value for themselves in the future, but instead want to create experiences and memories. This is not to say that collectors don’t do the same thing, but they do it differently.

No matter what you do or where you are, a good model car store will have everything you need to start your collection. When you visit, don’t feel rushed to make a decision or feel like you need to buy everything. Collections usually start out slow and will move up from there. See what speaks to you and then your collection will start to build.
Fairs
For die-hard collectors, you may want to consider going to trade shows as well as your local store. At these fairs you can meet people who are also interested in diecast models. There will be people who have private groups and communities that they will draw your attention to, as well as have collections that they might want to share or trade.
Kids
If you want to start a collection, you may also want to get your kids involved. When we make these events familiar, we begin to learn much more about the sport than we would have learned otherwise. Plus, spending time with the kids can also be a great bonding moment.
For children, collecting these cars and models is also great. It teaches them responsibility and gets them interested in doing their own research and exploration. These skills are great to have later in life when you need to research documents for school or work.
Starting
Getting started is easy. You just have to decide on a single piece for your collection, find it and buy it. You are now a collector.
