Kenting National Park is a unique and beautiful recreational area in Taiwan. It is home to rare species of coastal forest, tropical monsoon forest, and coral reef plants. The coral reefs were exposed during the receding sea, and the soil attached to them was perfect for growing unique plants. Today, you can see more than 1,200 different species of plants in the park, including a tropical botanical garden that is located in the national park.
Kenting National Park was established in 1984 as a way to protect the surrounding natural environment from destruction. The park is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the east, the Taiwan Strait on the west, and the Bashi Channel on the north. There are numerous trails and viewpoints to explore in the park.
There are many beautiful views of the Kenting peninsula from the park’s viewpoints. The park also has several nice beaches. The Hengchun Longitudinal Valley Plain runs from north to south through the park. In the north, it contains coral sea cliffs with fringing reefs. In the south, it contains coral tablelands. In addition, the ocean currents are home to sharks including the bull shark and whale shark.
There are many beaches in Kenting, as well as many different national parks in the area. The most popular beach is Nanwan Beach, which is one of the largest and most popular in the area. While the waves are not great for swimming here, you can still enjoy the pristine water and enjoy various water sports.
What to See in Kenting National Park
If you’re not into hiking, renting a scooter is a convenient option for exploring Kenting National Park. The cost of scooter rental is cheaper than renting a car in Taiwan, and you can also get fuel scooters if you’re visiting the park without an international driving licence. Lastly, remember that you should wear a helmet when riding a motorbike in Taiwan, because the country has strict laws concerning motorbike helmets.
Kenting National Park is a gorgeous place to visit. It’s also safe. Just be sure to lock your car while you’re there, and stay on the marked trails. Be careful of stray dogs. You’ll find a beautiful place to spend the evening.
If you’re not looking for nature, then you can spend some time shopping and eating. The Hengchun Night Market is worth a visit, too. There are many local dishes and specialty food that you can try.
Besides a car, there are also plenty of hiking trails in Kenting National Park. The trails range from easy walks along the beach to challenging mountainous hikes. If you don’t feel like climbing, you can hike to Turtle Mountain, a small hill near the National Museum of Marine Biology Aquarium. This walk is about 30 minutes round trip. If you want to grab some cheap seafood, you can also stop by Houbihu Fishing Harbor.
