It takes you 4 hours to write an article, 45 minutes to build an email because it has to be “perfect” and all day complaining that you have too much to do and not enough time in the day. You are so busy that even your watch has a clock and runs.

Stop.

Breathe.

You are making things too difficult for yourself and therefore you are wasting a lot of time on minor things. You are specializing in minor things.

A lot of it is your own mindset when dealing with issues like negativity or stress, and some of it has to do with basic time management. You just spent 2 hours on the phone with someone you really didn’t want to talk to, why did you? Too nice to hang, huh? Now is the time to take action. Your business is on hold while you try to be courteous. Keep all phone calls to a certain limit. Your time and theirs are valuable, so cut to the chase and get down to business over the phone. They might respect you more for it because you don’t deal with “small talk”, you get right to the core of the phone call, and that’s why they wanted to talk to you anyway, right? You can talk about personal things when you are not working.

Stress, negativity, and worry can haunt you all day, but you must learn to pick your battles. Negative emails can be dealt with by the person directly or deleted. You don’t have to answer everything, sometimes not saying anything is saying something. Learn some deep breathing techniques to help you deal with stress and focus on what you need to do. Also read up on some time management skills or look up some web apps that can help you save time. Online schedulers, to-do lists, and the like can benefit the home-based business entrepreneur. If you subscribe to these types of tasks online, do yourself a favor and use them. They are there to help your business and your time by organizing and focusing it.

You want to email your mentor and ask a quick question. So it takes you 45 minutes to build, proofread and spell check twice (just to be sure). When your mentor receives that email and responds, do you think it will take that long to send it to you? Highly unlikely. Write it down as you think about it, read it once, spell check it once, and then submit it. Stop thinking about things because you only complicate them more for yourself.

How to stop specializing in minor things:

– Trust yourself

– Start reading about time management, like Getting Things Done

– Invest in an egg timer and assign tasks on that timer

– If something negative comes your way, face it and move on. Thinking about it makes it worse and raises your blood pressure.

– When you work on your home business… WORK ON YOUR HOME BUSINESS. Don’t mix it up with personal things (like paying the bills). Watch YouTube in personal time. It’s not business time.

– Get organized at the beginning of the day. Set your to-do list and really stick to it. Check things off your list as you go. If you didn’t get to everything, create a new list for the next day and add it to the top.

The success of your home business depends on your focus, your time, your actions, your effort. It can be challenging to run a home-based business, but if you can learn to delegate where you spend your time and effort, you can achieve successful results.
